It’s up to us: will we continue to spend more time in traffic, or will we find the vision that the builders of Metro had, and choose to invest in the Next Generation of Transit to get our region moving?
New transit investments are critical to creating walkable, inclusive communities and to handling our population growth without perpetuating sprawl and generating even worse traffic.
But these investments won’t happen unless we all work together to support a new vision, just like the leaders who pressed for our Metrorail system in the 1960s and 1970s. The Next Generation of Transit campaign champions new transit investments, increased interconnectivity between transit modes, and high-quality information and service.
The initiative is starting with a report detailing the many transit plans being considered for the region, Thinking Big, Planning Smart, to get everyone up to speed in the conversation. We’ve also launched a more in-depth campaign in Montgomery County, where leaders are weighing several important transit projects to get that part of the region moving.
